I can post anything I want?
Pretty much. One exception though: you can’t reveal any identifying
information. This includes the person’s phone number, exact
physical address, email address, driver’s license number or
social security number. Be truthful in your posts! Remember, you’re
creating a resource for the world.
Is there a way I can edit a post after submitting
it?
Each time you post, you choose a password to go along with the submission.
With this, you can edit your post anytime. Only the person that
knows the password is given this privilege.
Alright, my roommate is pissed that I posted about
him/her. Can I delete the post?
If you have the password for the post, you can go back and just
clear out all of the entries in the posting. Our system has spiders
that will occasionally crawl through the database and simply comb
these newly empty postings out.
I forgot my password... Is there any way I can
get it back?
Sorry, but no. The goal was to make it so that we kept posters anonymous.
If we kept any identifying information about you (and if you needed
to retrieve a lost password, that would require some kind of identifying
information), that would go against our mission statement. If you
wanted to edit a post and lost your password, we suggest simply
posting a new roommate submission. In the future, we will add in
spiders into our software to search and destroy the older of the
resubmissions.
Somebody posted information on me that’s
completely wrong! What can I do?
Our goal is to create an open forum. We support the first amendment
(we’re based out of the USA) and the free speech rights that
come with it. With this said, we provide the ability for users to
post rebuttals in order to defend themselves, call out their accusers,
and correct false statements.
I have this great picture of my old roommate. Can
I post it onto the website?
Yes, our website allows you to upload one picture of your roommate
that has a smaller filesize than 2000 KB. There is freeware out
on the internet that lets you easily compress your pictures. No
pornography please!
I have this great partnership/advertising/press
deal I want to propose to your management. How do I contact you?
You can contact us by sending us a message.
Is this legal?
Yes assuming certain common-sense guidelines are followed. A poster
can legally post based on the truth, opinion, consent, innocent
dissemination (claim that defendant had no actual knowledge of the
defamatory statement or no reason to believe the statement was defamatory),
or statements made in good faith and reasonable belief that they
were true.
Generally, to prove libel, five key elements must be present. The
plaintiff must prove:
1. that the information was published
2. the defendant is identifiable (recall all posts are anonymous)
3. the remarks were defamatory towards the plaintiff's reputation
4. the published information is false
5. that the defendant is at fault
Courts give the benefit of the doubt to people being tried. The
burden of proof is on the accuser.
You guys suck! I want to sue you!
Hopefully you’re not reading this one, but we are prepared.
We have consulted one of the world’s leading authorities on
cyber-libel and free speech law as well as several members in the
legal profession. We have also studied several legal cases that
establish legal precedence. Basically, we know we are covered.
